REFLEXOLOGY

So much more than a foot massage

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is an ancient therapy that has been practiced worldwide for centuries, with the earliest pictorial evidence found in Egyptian tombs! I believe it is becoming increasingly relevant today as a support for wellbeing in our fast-paced world. We're returning to ancient wisdom and rediscovering what our ancestors knew—that true health comes from slowing down, listening to our bodies, and taking a holistic approach to self-care.

Reflexology works on the principle that your feet contain a complete map of your body, reflecting what's happening within. When you carry physical tension, emotional stress, or have existing health concerns, the corresponding reflex points become imbalanced.

Through my training, I can identify these imbalances and sensitivities in your feet. By applying targeted pressure to reflex points, I help guide specific areas of your body and mind back toward balance and ease. You'll leave feeling deeply relaxed, and with regular sessions, many clients notice positive shifts in their symptoms and overall wellbeing.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?

Many clients come to reflexology simply to feel restored and refreshed—seeking dedicated time and space to relax and reconnect with themselves. Others use it to support specific health concerns or as part of their ongoing commitment to wellbeing.

Whatever brings you to reflexology, most people experience a positive shift. Sessions leave you feeling deeply relaxed, rebalanced, and with an enhanced sense of overall wellbeing.

Reflexology may help support you with:

  • Easing stress and anxiety
  • Releasing tension
  • Improving sleep patterns
  • Conception
  • Through all stages of pregnancy and postpartum
  • Hormonal balance through all of life's transitions
  • Improved digestive health

FAQs

How often should I have reflexology?

Everyone is different, and your response to reflexology may be immediate or take a few sessions to notice. Most clients experience a positive shift after 3 treatments. After that, monthly sessions help maintain your wellbeing, though you can also book as needed during particularly stressful or challenging times. Think of it like exercise—consistency brings the best results, but ultimately the rhythm that works for you is the right one.

Who can have reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy suitable for everyone, whatever your age or state of health. The only time you couldn't have reflexology would be if you have an active deep vein thrombosis or any form of blood clot.

Reflexology can be particularly supportive for stress-related conditions or chronic illness and can be an excellent complement to your overall wellness routine. Reflexology does not claim to cure but it can be used as a support mechanism for many illnesses both acute and chronic. Again the only way you will know how it will affect you in your particular situation will be to try it. It's important to note that reflexology is a complementary therapy designed to work alongside conventional medical care, not replace it.

Many clients find reflexology beautifully supportive during medical treatments such as IVF procedures or cancer therapy, helping to promote relaxation and overall wellbeing during challenging times.

If you have any specific health concerns or conditions, please feel free to discuss these during your consultation so we can ensure reflexology is appropriate for your individual circumstances.

Does my health insurance cover reflexology?

I’m a member of the AoR meaning I’m fully qualified and work to their code of ethics. AoR reflexologists are recognised by many health insurance providers, including Beneden, BHSF, Bupa, Health Shield, and several others. Just let me know if you need a separate invoice for this and I am happy to provide it so that you can claim back the cost of your treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Most clients feel deeply relaxed and rejuvenated following treatment. However, sometimes, as your body responds to treatment, you may experience some gentle healing reactions, which are typically temporary and indicate that your body is processing the treatment. Common responses in the 24-48 hours following a session may include:

  • Mild fatigue or feeling more tired than usual
  • Slight headache
  • Increased need to urinate as your body detoxifies
  • Temporary changes in sleep patterns
  • Emotional release or feeling more sensitive
  • Slight congestion or runny nose

To support your body's natural healing process, I recommend drinking plenty of water after your session and allowing yourself time to rest if needed.

Can reflexology help me if I am trying to get pregnant?

The research is still catching up, but the anecdotal evidence is compelling—many women have welcomed babies after incorporating reflexology into their fertility journey, whether they conceive naturally or through assisted fertility treatment. Given that stress is a known factor in fertility issues, reflexology's profound relaxation effects and support for hormonal balance may help create the optimal conditions your body needs. Reflexology calms the nervous system (and feels amazing!) and, above all else, gives you a space to escape the stress and overwhelm that comes with trying to conceive.
